Business Student Stereotypes

Business is an interesting discipline because it is hard to pinpoint a specific type of person who might study it. The difficulty lies in the fact that Business is a combination of every other discipline and takes a vast group of people working together to be done successfully. Each and every student at Tyndale brings a unique perspective to their classroom (and workplace), much like the characters in The Office. Your favourite Business course could reveal if you are the Michael,  Pam,  Stanley…or maybe even the Dwight of your class.

If this person ever becomes your boss, you can be sure that your office will run much like it does in The Office, which means office Olympics and strategy meetings that may end in anarchy. All in all you know Michael just wants the best for everyone, and why not have some fun at the same time?

If you’re a Michael, your favourite class is BUSI 211 Introduction to Leadership.

You look over and she is always taking notes, or so it seems. Really she is just using her 24 coloured pen set to draw neat bubbles and arrows around words such as consolidate and globalization. She’ll still probably get one of the best marks in the class.

– Also known as Frosh Pam or Pam-in-Training.  She hasn’t found out that Staedtler makes great pens and has resorted to using black and blue to make her notes pop.

If you’re a Pam or an Erin, your favourite class is BUSI 203 Business Communication.

He’s all about having fun.  Although he hasn’t put any of your professor’s items in Jell-O, you know it is only a matter of time. Jim is also very concerned about building his skills and is always looking into new opportunities to grow.

If you’re a Jim, your favourite class is BUSI 441 Business Development.

This person can be best summed up by this beautiful quote from Dwight: “I saw Wedding Crashers accidentally. I bought a ticket for ‘Grizzly Man’ and went into the wrong theater. After an hour, I figured I was in the wrong theater, but I kept waiting. ‘Cuz that’s the thing about bear attacks… they come when you least expect it.”

If you’re a Dwight, your favourite class is BUSI 332 Professional Selling.

Better known as The Dynamic Duo.  It all started in first year being paired together in Intro to Business, and that has now flourished into a bond that cannot be broken. There is a good chance you haven’t seen them separated since.

If you and your friend are Kevin and Oscar, your favourite class is BUSI 101 Intro to Business.

Day in and day out they come in, swipe, and diligently do their work. They might be a little quieter, but when they do add to the conversation, it is usually a stroke of genius and you wish you had said it. You want to be in Stanley’s group for any group project.

If you are  a Stanley your favourite class is BUSI 372 Operations Management.
